Happy 39th Birthday to Ellen. We wish you all the joy!

(Updates coming to the site very soon)

Ellen was at Letterman last monday for taping an interview. It airs this thursday.

Pictures of her arriving there.

“My goal is to get Meredith [Ellen Pompeo] and Derek [Patrick Dempsey] together for good and let them try to figure out what it is to be in a relationship in the future,” Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes revealed to EW.com today. “And that is something that time off [during the writers’ strike] really gave me perspective on — whether or not we could actually do it, how we could do it, that it would be amazing to watch how that works.”

Rhimes had dinner with Dempsey and “we talked about all of this,” she reports. “As actors, they’re very invested in Derek and Meredith. Ellen and I are getting together Monday.”

Also coming up when Grey’s returns for five episodes on April 24: Lauren Stamile, who plays McDreamy’s latest potential love interest, Nurse Rose, will return for all five episodes; and Elizabeth Reaser, as Jane Doe, will be back for three.

When told of the Meredith-McDreamy news, costar TR Knight exclaimed, “Oh, wow, I didn’t know that! I guess Meredith and Derek are gonna smooch again!” But Knight is busy getting over a bad cold before heading back to work next week: “I got the crud that’s been going around,” he said as he drove home from a doctor’s appointment this evening. “It was like, Body is crashing, you’ve got a week and a half to be sick before work starts, so go.”

Grey’s Anatomy fans can thank the writer’s strike for at least one upcoming plot twist. Creator Shonda Rhimes tells Entertainment Weekly that time off provided during the WGA strike gave her perspective about getting Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek “McDreamy” (Patrick Dempsey) back together for good. Rhimes goal is to get them to the point where they “try to figure out what it is to be in a relationship in the future.”

EW says that Rhimes has already met with Dempsey about the potential Meredith-McDreamy reunion. She will reportedly meet with Ellen Pompeo on the matter later today. She says both actors are deeply invested in those two characters relationship.

The current state of the characters’ relationship is more “friends with benefits” than committed soul mates. Because of Meredith’s many anxieties and hang ups she and McDreamy have drifted apart in recent episodes. They’re relationship is currently a physical one only. Meredith doesn’t want him to date other people but can’t commit to being anything more to him either. The show left off with McDreamy’s budding flirtation with Nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile).

Fans will have to wait until April 24th for Grey’s Anatomy to return with five new episodes. EW says Nurse Rose will be back for all five new episodes, suggesting that Meredith and McDreamy won’t be back together anytime soon. Elizabeth Reaser will also return for three episodes as “Jane Doe”.

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has hinted that there could be some lasting romance coming up in the medical TV drama.

“My goal is to get Meredith [Ellen Pompeo] and Derek [Patrick Dempsey] together for good and let them try to figure out what it is to be in a relationship in the future,” she told EW.com.

“That is something that time off [during the writers’ strike] really gave me perspective on - whether or not we could actually do it, how we could do it, and that it would be amazing to watch how that works.”

Shonda apparently admitted she had already discussed the planned storyline with the stars, having dinner with Patrick where “we talked about all of this”.

She added: “As actors, they’re very invested in Derek and Meredith. Ellen and I are getting together Monday.”

Grey’s Anatomy returns for its final five episodes post writers’ strike in the US on April 24.

  • The third season of Grey’s Anatomy has been the most tumultuous to date, what with the firing of Isaiah Washington and the departure of Kate Walsh for her spin-off, Private Practice. However, show star Patrick Dempsey says that all is now well behind the scenes.

“There’s a much better mood on the set… I think [creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes] is really finding her way trying to balance out the two shows,” Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, said. “We find her to be much more receptive this season. She’s looking for more feedback from people than she had in the past.”

At this time, however, production has shut down due to the WGA strike. Dempsey said that when the strike, which has gone on despite the resumption of talks, comes to an end, he hopes the writers will also find a way to settle things between his character and Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey.

“I think we’ve become really stagnant in the relationship,” he said. “I’m tired of going back over and over and playing the same beat again. And I think that’s been the biggest conversation we’ve had — we have to move forward with the dynamic between the two of them.”

Moving forward is, indeed, the key not just for Dempsey and Pompeo’s characters, but for the rest of the Grey’s Anatomy brood as well. This is why their main concern right now is the growth of the show, and not whatever feelings they may have with regards to Walsh’s new show, which is turning out to be a success for the network.

“I think it’s a very awkward situation to find yourself in when someone is going off to a spin-off and it was a difficult year last year for obvious reasons,” Dempsey said. “I think it’s settled now. We don’t discuss it. It’s one of those things, it’s too close to discuss. We’re more concerned with where we’re at with our show and are the characters growing.”

As for talks that he himself is ready to move on from Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey, who is currently starring in the hit Disney film Enchanted, said that he still has “a few more years” on his contract, “so we’ll see what happens with that and we’ll see how successful these movies are.”

If you can’t wait for new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, some fresh secrets about the next season have emerged that will tide you over during summer - stop reading now if you want to stay spoiler-free!

Fans of the Emmy Award-winning drama have become accustomed to Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) narrating each episode, but it’s been revealed that another character will step in to voice-over duties.

TV Guide columnist Michael Ausiello reports that Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), the cranky doctor with the heart of gold, will play narrator in episode 11 of the upcoming season.

So what’s the reason behind the switch? Ausiello remained coy, but wrote that “there’s a reason behind her temporary promotion - and it ain’t pretty”. He hinted that some emotional trauma will befall Bailey, possibly something involving her husband and young child.

Plenty of other juicy storylines are coming up: George (T.R. Knight) will finally tell Callie (Sara Ramirez) about his fling with Izzie (Katherine Heigl), while Meredith calls it quits with McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey)!

New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy will air on the Seven Network in 2008, but in the meantime fans can tune into reruns airing on Monday and Tuesday nights at 9.30pm.

NEW YORK - Ellen Pompeo promised she wouldn’t have a big wedding. She kept her promise.

Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” tied the knot with record producer Chris Ivery last Friday in a ceremonial office at City Hall, with Mayor Michael Bloomberg as a witness.

Pompeo, 38, and Ivery became engaged last November, after dating for three years. In an interview last August, she said they didn’t plan a big ceremony because “we want one thing to ourselves.”

Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor Patti Harris were the two witnesses, and an official from the city clerk’s office performed the ceremony, Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser said.

  • Her character can’t seem to find romantic happiness on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

But Ellen Pompeo has found it off screen: She and record producer Chris Ivery have married after dating for three years

The nuptials were performed at City Hall in New York. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was a witness at the ceremony Friday.

Pompeo has been the unsung strength of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” She has kept Meredith Grey appealing during up-and-down stories and the off-and-on again romance with McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey).

But Pompeo hasn’t received any Emmy recognition like winner Katherine Heigl or nominees Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson. Yet “Grey’s Anatomy” owes a good deal of its appeal to the lead actress — the anatomy wouldn’t mean much without a likable Grey.
